About Rathert Design
Mark Rathert has over 34 years of global experience in golf course architecture. His dedication and personal involvement provides the highest quality of services to our clients. Mr. Rathert has been a member of the distinguished American Society of Golf Course Architects since 1981.
He began his design career in 1977 with the renowned firm of Robert Trent Jones II, working on a variety of interesting projects and resort developments both Domestically and Internationally. He furthered his career as Vice President and Design Director with JMP Golf Design Group before starting Rathert International Golf Design in 1989.
Once commissioned for a project, he makes the commitment to put in the personal time required to address every detail as well as assures the course design maximizes the established budget, and considers short and long-term costs. He considers the player’s enjoyment of the challenges that golf presents, takes responsibility for preserving the site’s natural aesthetics (utilizing his golf artistry to create natural beauty where it is lacking), and understands the importance of protecting the environment.
